Latest News: Veqa ImageFly 1.5 Released
October 17, 2006
Veqa Image Effects has been updated to version 1.0.2 and released on this day. This is an important update release containing more fixes than the previous fix release. One of the top things in this release, however, not a bug fix, but more along the lines of a feature, is the ability to switch to either GD or ImageMagick MagickWand for PHP on the fly through the "use=" URL parameter. Originally, you could toggle this in the configuration, but now you can do this on the fly just as well.
As for bug fixes, there's been a bit of fixes to make the software more compatible with 4.3. But also, there has been a problem with the PHP version checking in order to use certain effects. This has instead been changed to checking if the special functions for those effects exist and should now be more stable.
Also, being another bug, the positive contrast has been known to have some problems, but now fixed in this update. The problem was setting the positive contrast in GD for images with low amount of colors, which resulted in an error. That has been fixed and smaller images can now be able to have a positive contrast applied to them.
Another fix is PNG transparency for GD. However, this does not cover transparency for all or even most of the effects - only some. PNG transparency will only occur for PHP 5 GD effects of brightness, colorize, grayscale, and invert effects. The rest of the effects are still the same and do not support transparency, but nevertheless, it's good to have transparency for something at least.
A minor feature that could be seen as an effect, but more of a formatting option, is the ability to change JPG image quality. This can be set from 1-100 - lowest having worst quality and highest being best. Or if set as false then it will revert to the default. This default depends though whether or not you're using MagickWand or GD, since the JPG quality setting is designed for both. However, this setting can only be changed from within the configuration.
And that's not at all in this update. You can view more details in the list of version changes of this product found on its Web site.
